Heavy thunderstorms expected across the UAE in the coming days

It is time to dust down your waterproofs as forecasters are predicting thunderstorms across the UAE.

Forecasters at the National Centre for Meteorology have said low pressure weather systems in Jordan and Saudi Arabia will draw rain clouds towards the country.

The rain will be of “varying intensity” across different areas of the country up until Wednesday.

Eastern and northern areas will be the first areas to experience the rain, starting on Saturday.

From Sunday up until Tuesday, rain will spread from the west and coastal areas inland, say forecasters.

According to the AccuWeather website, Ras Al Khaimah, Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain could be hit by thunderstorms on Sunday - and there could be further storms heading their way on Monday.

Abu Dhabi will be cloudy on Sunday and will experience a” strong thunderstorm” on Monday afternoon. Dubai is also expected to be partly cloudy tomorrow. It could also experience a thunderstorm in some parts on Monday.

It comes after parts of the Northern Emirates were hit by flash flooding earlier this month, which claimed the life of a lorry driver who was swept away while driving through Wadi Al Quor in Ras Al Khaimah.

Temperatures on the coast are expected to hit a high of 36C on Saturday, dropping to between 24C and 30C overnight. Humidity will be high, ranging from 65 per cent to 90 per cent.

It will be slightly hotter inland during the day, ranging between 33C to 38C, and dropping to between 20C and 27C overnight. Humidity will range between 60 per cent and 85 per cent.

Between Saturday and Tuesday, winds will be light to moderate, picking up at times which will blow dust over exposed areas. The sea is expected to be rough in the Arabian Gulf and moderate, becoming rough at times, in the Oman Sea.
