ABU DHABI // A fishing inspection campaign has been launched by the Environment Agency − Abu Dhabi that will fine commercial and recreational fishers using unauthorised equipment.

EAD inspectors will ensure that hadra traps are no longer in use, said Mohammed Al Zoabi, researcher at the marine biodiversity sector.

They will also ensure that recreational fishermen have licences, comply with the authorised catch volumes, avoid fishing excessively exploited or small-sized fish and exercise their hobby in the right locations using the right equipment.

The inspectors also raise awareness of EAD rulings and urging fishers to comply through the media, text messages and noticeboards.

The EAD is also monitoring fish markets and marine reserves throughout Abu Dhabi emirate to ensure their compliance with rules and to fine any violations.
