ABU DHABI // Gulf Cooperation Council countries have agreed to allow the passage of falcons among member states – excluding Oman.

The move allows falcons to be moved through the countries by using passports for the animals issued by relevant authorities, state news agency Wam reported.

The decision, made by the Saudi Commission for Wildlife, will allow the birds to take part in festivals and competitions as well as receive veterinary treatment.

Falcon owners previously had to obtain new movement permits each time their birds were taken to a different country.

The decision, however, does not mean that falconers will be allowed to use the birds for hunting in these countries.
