A tap expected to save 80 per cent of ablution water will be developed and installed across mosques in Dubai.
On Wednesday, Dubai Municipality inked an agreement with Hamad Rahma Al Shamsi General Trading Corporation to have the Dubai Tap produced in a bid to conserve water across the city.
Almost 35,100 litres of water are used by a single person during ablution every year in Dubai, said Hussain Lootah, director-general of Dubai Municipality.
Once the Dubai Tap is created, the Municipality will encourage property developers to use install it.
Mr Lootah said production of the tap is in line with the UAE’s vision and Dubai Strategic Plan 2021 which aims to make Dubai the most innovative and sustainable city by improving air quality, conserving water resources, increasing clean energy contribution and implementing green growth plans.
“This tap will achieve the greatest possible savings in water for ablution and will be used in all existing and new mosques in Dubai as a first phase,” he said.
