Dh14.6 million to build three new parks and a plaza approved

DUBAI // Plans for three parks and a plaza were approved by Dubai Municipality on Tuesday as part of its aim to increase the amount of green space.

The park projects are in Al Twar 2, Oud Muteena and Al Mizhar 1 and a public square is being planned in Muhaisina 3.

Covering a total of 7.46 hectares, the four projects will be completed by March next year at a cost of Dh14.6 million, according to the municipality.

Play equipment, tree-shaded sitting areas and walking tracks lined with wooden benches will feature in the parks. A decorative lighting system operated by solar power will entertain visitors at night.

The plans were approved by Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid, the Deputy Ruler of Dubai and chairman of Dubai Municipality.

The decision to build the parks was taken after studying residents’ needs for entertainment and recreational facilities, said Hussain Lootah, director general of Dubai Municipality, adding that requirements of people with special needs would also be met.

“These projects come as part of these studies and out of our commitment to better the municipal services to citizens, residents and visitors,” he said.

The municipality’s future plans are not confined to the construction of buildings and form a balanced attempt to introduce green areas by planting trees, bushes, flowers and lawns, Mr Lootah said.

The Al Twar 2 park will include separate play areas for age groups 2-5 years and 6-12 years. A 520-metre running track and a warm-up area will also be provided.

A multi-purpose entertainment centre with a football pitch and volleyball courts, a 575m running track and a walking track and plaza will be built at the Oud Muteena Park.

A garden project with several varieties of trees along a 400m track has been planned for Al Mizhar 1 park, while the public square in Al Muhaisina 3 will include family and play areas.
