Emiratis have been urged by the Ministry of Foreign Affairsto avoid wearing expensive clothes and famous brand accessories when travelling abroad to avoid drawing unnecessary attention to themselves.

The ministry advised citizens who are planning on going overseas to keep copies of their passports and identification handy in self-addressed emails or on mobile phones so they can be produced in case of an emergency.

The ministry also called on travellers to register with the Tawajedi services (My Whereabouts) through the website www.mofa.gov.ae or smartphone application UAEMOFA.

Rashid Ali Al Dhaheri, the ministry’s director of nationals’ affairs, emphasised the need for citizens to regularly review travel updates and advisories available on the ministry’s website. He said Emiratis can call [phone] in case of emergency when abroad.
