ABU DHABI // The UAE Embassy in Cairo is continuing its evacuation programme for Emiratis in Egypt amid ongoing political unrest in the country.

UAE nationals wishing to leave are being advised to visit the embassy, which is overseeing the evacuation via a number of UAE airlines, including Etihad Airways, Emirates Airlines, Air Arabia, flydubai and Ras Al Khaimah Air.

So far 57 Emiratis have left since Saturday and others are checked into a Cairo hotel awaiting travel home.

The UAE ambassador to Egypt and permanent representative to the Arab League, Mohammed bin Nakhira Al Dhaheri, said three teams from the embassy are working on the evacuation, which is being closely monitored, according to state news agency WAM.

Egypt has been rocked with protests in recent weeks, with many calling for the resignation of president Mohammed Morsi.
