RAS AL KHAIMAH // An 14-year-old Emirati was hurt after falling down a hill while trying to raise a 115 metre UAE flag.

The accident took place yesterday in Ghalila when a group of young Emiratis were trying to fix the flag in celebration of National Day in their neighbourhood.

Manea Saeed Al Shehi suffered minor injures and was taken to a nearby hospital where he received treatment before returning home.

Last year the director of the UAE Red Crescent, Mohammed Al Shihy, died away after falling from the roof of his home in RAK while trying to raise the UAE flag. He suffered severe injuries and was hospitalised, but died the next day.

This year, members of the Red Crescent decorated Mr Al Shihy’s home with UAE flags in his memory.
