DUBAI // He may only be nine years old, but Ali Al Muhairi is already making a name for himself as an inventor.
The Emirati schoolboy has even been recognised by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority for devising an energy-saving device.
Ali has invented a small device that uses solar power to run household devices, such as fans, lamps, radios and mobile phones.
The device can store enough energy to run devices for up to half an hour.
Saeed Al Tayer, managing director & chief executive of Dewa, praised young Ali for his ingeniousness.
“Dewa is proud of the next generation of innovators who love to express their creativity and who want to make a career in renewable energy,” he said.
The young inventor created a device called the Mobile Power Storage using solar panels, a 12-volt battery, electrical sockets and a wooden-panel base.
Ali used a computer to help design the final shape for his device.
He was accompanied on shopping trips to buy the parts for the device by his father, Blaisha.
“We thank Dewa for its efforts to motivate new and young inventors to engage in sustainable development in Dubai and the UAE,” said Mr Al Muhairi.
Dewa invited Ali to visit the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park and Dewa Sustainable Building and awarded him with a prize and an iPad.
