MUSCAT // An Emirati man injured in a road accident in Oman has been flown back to the UAE on a medical aircraft dispatched on the orders of the President, Sheikh Khalifa.
The 48-year-old victim received head injuries in the accident near Thumrait in southern Oman on Friday.
Initially the man was taken to the Sultan Qaboos Hospital in Salalah for treatment, according to Wam, the state news agency. His condition was not disclosed.
Officials from the Ministry of Interior and a medical team from Abu Dhabi flew out to bring him home.
In August, seven members of an Emirati family from Al Ain died in a road crash in Salalah. Days later, four Emiratis were injured in an accident when their vehicle rolled over. Early last month seven Emiratis were involved in a two-car collision in Oman.
Oman's ministry of tourism said a record number of more than 40,000 Emiratis, an increase of 18 per cent on last year’s holiday, visited the country over Eid Al Adha. Traders and hoteliers also reported brisk business. "We are doubling our profits this Eid because of the larger than normal arrival of Emiratis," said Hassan Al Habsi, a gift shop owner in Muscat.
