Delegates from around the world applauded a speech delivered by Adeeb Al Balushi, the youngest participant in the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) plenipotentiary conference in Busan, South Korea. "On behalf of young people around the world, I ask you to listen to the voice of young people and engage them in setting ...policies," said Adeeb Al Balushi, 10. "I must point out that many young people around the world did not have the opportunity to get proper education and suffer from lack of infrastructure and necessary empowering tools they need to be able to participate and engage in the development process. These children are counting on the efforts of the International Telecommunication Union to enable them to use their skills and talents in serving their communities." Adeeb was greeted with warm applause from the audience at the end of his speech. He and his family were the centre of attention among many of the participants, who gathered on the second day of the conference. The Emirati boy accompanied the delegation of the Telecommunication Regulatory Authority to convey the message of Emirati youth to the rest of the world. Mohamed Al Ghanim, director general of the TRA, cut short his speech to give Adeeb a chance to address the audience of about 3,000.
