More than 25 wells, two schools and a sewing workshop are among Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) projects that have been launched in Iraq’s Kurdistan region to support displaced Iraqis and Syrians.

The ERC said the 29 wells would serve more than 100,000 people and the local population.

The two schools, one for boys and the other for girls, opened in Bahraka. Each has 12 classrooms with a 750-students capacity, while the sewing workshop employs 37 women.

ERC staff also inspected work on a maternity and children’s hospital, and a girls-only school.

A programme to deliver food baskets to 50,000 people in camps in Erbil has also begun.
