Eight arrested on suspicion of growing marijuana in vegetable patch

Eight men were arrested on Saturday on suspicion of illegally cultivating marijuana in Umm Al Qaiwain's Al Ramla area.

The men, all Bangladeshi, were growing the plant in a garden, police said.

After officers took samples and had them tested, the plant was identified as cannabis, a police spokesman said.

"They were planting the drugs amid vegetables like tomatoes and aubergine just to distract security people," he said. "After we established that they were drugs we sought permission from the public prosecution and arrested them."
