ABU DHABI // President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed dispatched congratulatory cables to the leaders of Muslim countries on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr.
In the cables, Sheikh Khalifa wished for continued good health and wellbeing for the leaders, further progress and prosperity for their people.
The moon-sighting committee last night announced that Sunday will be the first day of the month of Shawwal and the first day of Eid Al Fitr.
The committee, headed by Sultan bin Saeed Al Badi, Minister of Justice, said that after a number of legitimate measures, as well as contact with neighbouring countries, it was established that Sunday will mark the beginning of Eid, the state news agency Wam reported.
Official Eid prayers in Abu Dhabi will take place at Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, which will be attended by Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and his fellow royals, ministers and officials. The Crown Prince will receive Eid greetings at Al Mushrif Palace in the capital.
The Eid Al Fitr holiday for the public sector will conclude on Tuesday, with work resuming on Wednesday. The private sector will have the first two days of Eid off - Sunday and Monday - with work resuming on Tuesday.
