ABU DHABI // Hundreds of Zayed University (ZU) students were yesterday told their graduation ceremony, planned for tomorrow, had been postponed "due to unexpected circumstances".
The university provost, Dr Larry Wilson, emailed staff and students yesterday to say the ceremony had been "postponed until further notice".
Later yesterday the university's Twitter page, @Zayed_U, told students the ceremony would take place at an unspecified time in autumn.
No one at the university, staff included, appeared to be aware of the decision before the email.
Students took to Twitter to express their disappointment.
One tweeted: "I love @Zayed_U and I love the years I spent in it, too bad about the graduation though. I was hoping for a better ending to those four years."
A teacher, who asked to remain anonymous, said: "Cancelling a graduation two days before the event is very disappointing for these girls. It's the climax of all their hard work and they always look forward to it."
Another student tweeted: "@Zayed_U u should've figured ur certain circumstances a while ago … Not 2 days before the graduation date that you have assigned!"
The university's management was unavailable for comment yesterday.
