ABU DHABI // Education authorities are poised for tough action against a private school where a girl, 7, was reported to have been sexually assaulted.
The girl’s mother filed a complaint with Abu Dhabi CID against a school security guard this month. The Indian guard, 56, was arrested on April 14.
Police said he confessed to sexually assaulting the pupil after she had entered his kitchen looking for a toy to play with.
The Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec) said it was investigating the case.
“Adec is coordinating with the concerned departments to complete the investigation,” a spokesman said. “[We] confirm that legal action will be taken as per the Private School Quality Assurance sector’s recently issued guidelines, which stipulate that private
schools are responsible for the moral and physical protection of their students.”
Col Dr Rashid Borshid, director of CID, said investigations were continuing.
Schools should be more vigilant and increase measures to prevent such incidents, according to Gen Nasser Al Nuaimi, secretary general of the Office of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and chairman of Higher Committee for Child Protection.
