DUBAI // A new centre dedicated to Emirati children has been established by decree of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai.
The Al Jalila Child Culture Centre will “focus on preserving the identity and the cultural heritage associated with Emirati children who constitute an important segment of society”, the state news agency Wam reported on Sunday.
Princess Haya bint Al Hussein, Sheikh Mohammed’s wife, will be the centre’s chairwoman of the Board of Trustees.
“Al Jalila Child Culture Centre is tasked with rolling out programmes and initiatives that connect institutions and members of society to boost up the culture, heritage, traditions and values associated with childhood and means of utilising modern day tools to enhance different aspects of the child’s personality,” Wam said.
The centre will issue publications and organise cultural activities that involve children, parents and teachers. The centre will also establish companies and carry out investment projects to create financial resources.
The centre will be established as an autonomous corporate entity that is independent in terms of finance and administration. The centre will also be attached to the Culture and Arts Authority in Dubai.
Earlier this year, Sheikh Mohammed set up the Al Jalila Foundation, a medical charity, and named it after his youngest daughter.
