ABU DHABI // Pupils and teachers are paying tribute to a classmate who died at the weekend.
A book of condolences has been set up at the British School Al Khubairat in memory of Louis Smith, who passed away on Saturday.
“We very much regret to inform the BSAK community that one of our pupils, Louis Smith, died unexpectedly on Saturday 14th December,” headmaster Dr Chris Ray and Julie Richards, chairwoman of the school’s board of governors, wrote in an email to parents sent on Sunday.
The school’s term ended on December 12, but it opened its doors to students on Wednesday to give them access to four grief counsellors who would be on site “should students wish to come in to talk to anyone”, according to a second email sent to parents.
A condolence book has been opened in the main senior school reception for parents and pupils wishing to share their sympathies.
A memorial service is planned for next term.
“The family wish to thank the BSAK community for the messages of support and condolence at this time,” according to the email. “The family remain in our thoughts and prayers.”
