ABU DHABI // An overseas student scholarship has been launched by Sheikh Saif bin Zayed, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.

All UAE scholarship students studying abroad are eligible, according to Wam, the state news agency.

The Saif bin Zayed Award for Overseas Scholarship Students was announced on Friday during the fifth annual UAE students forum in the US hosted by the UAE Embassy in Washington.

“You are the pillars of the future and our hope for a better tomorrow,” said Sheikh Saif in a pre-recorded address.

“Your country and leadership are relying on you to assist in the ongoing process of development and growth and to reflect the bright civilised image of the UAE in all national and international forums and events.”

He encouraged the students to provide the Government with ideas to enhance the quality of services offered to the public and create new ones.

Lt Col Dr Salah Al Ghoul, director of the Law Respect Culture Bureau, said the award was designed to encourage students to embrace innovation in police, security and non-security areas.

The award comprised two categories. The national representation award will be offered to three top achievers who reflect the Emirati identity by respecting laws of the educational institution they study at or participate in community work and excel in academic and scientific work.

The innovative ideas award will be granted to students who contribute to realising the objectives of the UAE Government and goals of the Ministry of Interior.

Conditions and requirements will be posted on the ministry website with a link on UAE embassy sites.
