DUBAI // The number of Emiratis who have chosen to study in North America has grown by more than 10 per cent, a US schools report shows.
The report, by the US Institute of International Education, found 2,097 Emiratis school leavers enrolled in US universities in 2011-2012, from 1,871 the previous year, state news agency Wam reported.
“Our mission is to ensure that students from across the UAE find the information they need about studying at American colleges and universities,” said Ali Lejlic, counsellor for press and cultural affairs at the US embassy in Abu Dhabi.
“We offer free and objective information about the many educational opportunities at accredited institutions in the US, along with guidance on how to access those opportunities.
“It is important to provide interested Emirati students and their parents with accurate and reliable information regarding studying in the US and the steps involved in that process.
“We offer educational experiences of the greatest quality, with outstanding variety and diversity in higher education, as well as an open door and warm welcome for international students.”
Representatives from 20 top US universities will meet prospective UAE students at the Najah Education and Career Fair, which runs from October 29 to 31 at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.
Najah is held under the patronage of Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, and has been running for seven years. This year’s event will feature 140 exhibitors.
“Najah is an unrivalled venue in terms of visibility and size for us to share this message,” said Mr Lejlic.
Other major international institutions taking part this year include Oxford Summer College, Jacobs University Bremen, the American University in Cairo, the Lebanese American University, Japan International Cooperation Centre, Strathclyde Business School and Education City Qatar.
