ABU DHABI // The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation has helped train 170,000 teachers throughout the Arab world in the 18 months since joining forces with Intel Corporation, according to WAM, the state news agency. The training is aimed at teachers in kindergarten through Grade 12, helping them integrate the latest educational techniques and technologies into their teaching. The goal is to train two million teachers by 2011.

"Young people are the key to solving global challenges," said Ferruh Gurtas, Intel's corporate affairs group director for the Middle East, Turkey and Africa. "A solid maths and science foundation, coupled with skills such as critical thinking, collaboration and digital literacy, are crucial for their success." The programme, which will soon come to the UAE, has trained 40,000 teachers in Egypt, 10,600 in Jordan and almost 11,000 in Saudi Arabia, WAM reported.

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation was launched with a US$10 billion (Dh36.7bn) personal endowment by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. newsdesk@thenational.ae
