British Council launches awards for young UAE entrepreneurs

Applicants in film, dance, theatre and other art forms must be running a young business which engages audiences with cultural content.

ABU DHABI // Young entrepreneurs in the UAE will get a chance to be rewarded for their work thanks to an initiative by the British Council.

The organisation launched the Young Creative Entrepreneur – Culture Award to showcase entrepreneurial work from the UAE.

Applicants in film, dance, theatre and other art forms must be running a young business that engages audiences with cultural content. Their aim should be to reach new audiences by using innovative business models and technology.

“The aim of the YCE – Culture Award programme is to identify and connect a group of emerging creative pioneers, running a business at the intersection of culture, technology and entrepreneurship or is innovating within a cultural institution as an ‘intrapreneur’,” said Marc Jessel, director for the British Council in the UAE.

The award will provide them an insight into the UK sector and put them in touch with a global group.

“This year we have also added new areas of recognition to the list of awards, such as digital publishing and broadcast,” he said.

Winners will take part in a five-day industry tour in the UK from July 13 to 19.

Deadline for applications is May 28 and the UAE winner will be announced in June. Apply online here.
