AL AIN // Al Ain Zoo Education Centre’s annual Spring Safari children’s programme gets under way on Sunday.

The safari allows children to work on their arts, crafts and maths skills in a setting where they can connect with wildlife and nature, a zoo official said. Other activities will include movies and shows.

“The zoo safari programme aims to educate children about wildlife and nature, giving them the opportunity to directly interact with the zoo’s animals,” said Muna Al Dhaheri, the zoo’s chief executive of conservation and education.

“Through a range of educational activities, facilities and programmes, the safaris help to enhance knowledge about conservation and wildlife, consistently working towards nurturing the next generation of scientists and environmentalists.”

Educating Emirati young people through activities provides them with “the basic tools they need to pioneer global causes such as conservation,” she said. The children will be able to watch animals in large, open mixed exhibits including the zoo’s Reptile House, White Lion Exhibit and various bird shows.

The zoo’s education centre organises activities including field trips, camps and training sessions on wildlife and animal conservation.

Registration started last Thursday and the programme, which runs until April 10, is open to children aged from seven to 10.

Last year, 200 children signed up, while others were placed on a waiting list due to limited space.

The safari costs Dh250 per child. Those interested in signing up can call Al Ain Zoo Education Centre on 03 799 2444.
