Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec) has issued a manual obliging private schools to monitor web content and students’ activities online.

Adec’s private school policy guide said school principals have to put in place policies to protect students from online dangers. Under the guide, the policy must include a web filtering system, a security system to keep tabs on students’ use of the internet and shield them from harmful and inappropriate material.

The guide also bans viewing or downloading any inappropriate material, cyberbullying, posting or sending messages and pictures that are insulting to a person or a group based on their physical or mental disability, age, faith, social status, ethnicity or political orientation.
