DUBAI // Almost 900,000 pupils are getting ready to start the new academic year.
Across the country, 1,376 schools are to welcome 892,000 pupils on September 8, and the Ministry of Education says it is doing all it can to ensure they enjoy a smooth start.
The ministry is in the final stages of recruiting new teaching staff to fill 652 vacancies and has installed 3,200 new air conditioning units in schools. Maintenance work has been finished at 26 schools in Dubai and the northern emirates.
Senior officials at the ministry met on Thursday to discuss preparations. "Everything is on track. However, this does not mean that urgent matters might not arise ... such as the resignation of some teachers or the rejection of offers by newly appointed teachers," said Ali Al Suwaidi, acting undersecretary at the ministry.
