SHARJAH // One of the students in a video circulated on social media networks that showed them falling off a school wall was not severely injured as previously reported, an education official has said.
The student did not have a concussion or severe injuries, contrary to rumours on social media, said Ali Al Suwaidi, assistant to the under-secretary for private education, according to Al Ittihad, the Arabic-language sister paper of The National.
“We visited the students at Al Qassimi hospital, along with the school principal, on Tuesday morning,” said Mr Al Suwaidi. “The student will undergo surgery for an injury in his thigh and the other student was in good shape, as he only suffered minor injuries and left the hospital.”
Such behaviour was isolated and cannot be generalised, said Mr Al Suwaidi. School administrators are committed to the students and such behaviour that may violate regulations was unprecedented, he said.
The incident took place in Al Dhaid and involved two 17-year-old Emirati students, Al Ittihad had reported.
