DUBAI // An 18-year-old man is accused of sending text messages to a woman threatening to have her raped, Dubai Criminal Court heard on Sunday morning.
Prosecutors said that Emirati J J, on September 30 and October 1 last year, sent several text messages to fellow Emirati Y A via WhatsApp in which he said he would send a number of men to sexually assault her.
In one of the texts he told her that he knew where she lived and where her room was in the house, the court was told. “I will not touch you but I will have a number of men do it for me,” part of the message read, according to court records.
The nature of the relationship between the two and the defendant’s motive behind sending his threatening messages were not revealed.
The 21-year-old woman told prosecutors she reported the matter to Al Qusais police station when J J sent her the texts.
Prosecutors said the teenager confessed to issuing threats via WhatsApp during questioning.
At Dubai Criminal Court on Sunday morning the charge of issuing threats to defame Y A was not read out to J J but the court said it will issue its verdict on February 16.
