DUBAI// A taxi driver has appeared in court for allegedly kicking a colleague in the groin, causing him a permanent disability.

The incident occurred on September 29 last year when the 25-year-old Pakistani defendant was due to start his shift and the victim was ending his, prosecutors said.

The 53-year-old victim, also from Pakistan, told investigators that he drove the taxi to Oud Al Mutainah to meet the defendant and hand over the cab as he was 10 minutes late.

“He started swearing and attacked me so I defended myself and held his arms, when I did so he kicked me in the genitals so I fell to the ground,” said the victim.

People nearby called for an ambulance which took the victim to Dubai Hospital where he was admitted for treatment. The defendant was arrested later the same day.

After being discharged, the victim said he still felt severe pain in his groin so took leave from work and flew home to seek treatment.

A forensic report confirmed he suffers from 15 per cent permanent disability in his groin.

The victim was present in court on Wednesday and told judges he is still suffering and receiving treatment, despite doctors telling him his condition has slightly improved.

A verdict will be issued on April 27.
