In what could be compared to a local derby for fountains, Dubai's Palm Fountain took the crown of world's largest from its neighbour in the Downtown.

Representatives from Guinness World Records were in attendance on Thursday to anoint the fountain at The Pointe.

"GWR is delighted to officially see The Palm Fountain breaking the title of the Largest Fountain," said Shaddy Gaad, the regional senior marketing manager for Guinness World Records.

"This fountain is an example of another milestone in Dubai’s architectural achievements and we are excited to declare it officially amazing."

The Palm Fountain is split across the east and west wings of The Pointe, and features 128 super shooters capable of firing water more than 100 metres into the air, and 3,000 LED lights that change colour as the jets dance to music.
