DUBAI// Pink emergency response vehicles which will exclusively cater to women in children have been introduced to the emirate, the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services announced on Saturday.
The pink ambulance, the first of its kind in the UAE, will only be used to transfer female patients and children under 12 years old.
“The use of emergency vehicles only for women and children is among twenty-four specialised services offered by the corporation,” said Khalifa Bin Darai, executive director of DCAS.
The specialised ambulance will be stationed at Al Twar municipality centre and will cover Deira 12 hours-a-day. It is expected to mostly deal with women going into labour and female patients, Mr Bin Darai said.
The productivity of the new emergency vehicle will be studied for two months before the service is expanded to cover Bur Dubai, he said.
“The evaluation of the pink ambulance vehicle will be based on the number of emergency cases dealt with in a particular area. We want to ensure that many residents will benefit from the service,” he said.
Drivers of the pink ambulances and paramedics on board are all female and are trained to deal with emergency cases, the executive director said.
“The female paramedics have completed several training courses and are able to provide the appropriate treatment in very short time.”

Classification of skills
A worker is categorised as skilled by the MOHRE based on nine levels given in the International Standard Classification of Occupations (ISCO) issued by the International Labour Organisation.
A skilled worker would be someone at a professional level (levels 1 – 5) which includes managers, professionals, technicians and associate professionals, clerical support workers, and service and sales workers.
The worker must also have an attested educational certificate higher than secondary or an equivalent certification, and earn a monthly salary of at least Dh4,000.
