Dubai's golden cupcake lands on world's most-expensive dishes list

DUBAI // The emirate's Golden Phoenix cupcake has made a list of the world's most expensive dishes, as compiled by a BBC travel website.

Priced at Dh3,676 and whipped up with 23-carat edible gold sheets, the cupcake is crafted with Italian chocolate, vanilla beans from Uganda and strawberries dipped in edible gold.

The cupcake must be ordered 48 hours in advance at Bloomsbury's in Dubai Mall.

Dubai's golden cupcake made it on the BBC list with a US$18,713 (Dh68,723) chocolate gold-flake dessert and a $293 burger, both from New York, along with a dish of sushi wrapped in gold leaves for 85,727 pesos (Dh7,454) from the Philippines.

Also on the list is the "Buddha Jumps Over the Wall" soup in London for £108 (Dh624) that includes shark's fin, abalone and Japanese flower mushroom according to the site.
