DUBAI // An event to raise money for sports equipment for children at an Emirati school in Ajman took place on Saturday.
More than 20 people took part in Row for Ramadan, organised by The InnerFight Intisaar Foundation.
Participants each rowed 42.2km on rowing machines, with others also taking part in a gym in the UK.
Ten other participants will row the 42.2km stretch during the holy month.
The InnerFight Intisaar Foundation is a community project that gives Emirati youths an opportunity to use physical and mental fitness to make improve their lives.
Marcus Smith, who started the foundation, said: “We had visited Manar Al Eman school in Ajman, where there are 3,000 Emirati students. They don’t have a lot of sports equipment and only have like three footballs and basketballs.”
He said participants paid Dh250 each to take part. “Once the initiative is done, we will go out and buy basketball hoops, tennis tables and footballs and hand them over to the school.”
