DUBAI // Three trips to Mecca will be awarded to audience members every night at Dubai's 12th annual Ramadan Forum.

This year's forum will take place from July 12 and 23 at Zabeel Hall in the Dubai World Trade Centre.

"This unique event has become a fixture of the holy month and has grown over the past 11 editions," said Hamad Mohammed Bin Mejren, executive director of business tourism at the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM). "The forum helps create a deeper understanding of Islam among nationals and expatriates by presenting valuable information about Islamic obligations and the values ingrained in Islamic teachings."

Last year the forum attracted 99,829 adult and 2,400 children, and 35 people converted to Islam as a result of what they learnt during the lectures.

"The organising committee carefully selected a group of prominent speakers and scholars that allow a variety from year to year for the benefit of the audience," said Bin Mejren.

This year, talks will be present in Arabic, English, Tagalog, Malayalam and Urdu.

Live updates will be posted on Twitter and Facebook, and videos will be posted on YouTube.

Apart from the seminars, the DTCM will also set up a 4,000-seater iftar tent in Al Muhaisnah labour camp and distribute 120,000 free meals.
