DUBAI // Dubai Police are searching for a mother who left her infant son with a maid in a hotel room and fled the country.

The Kenyan mother fled the UAE after leaving the five-month-old baby boy with an Ethiopian maid, said Col Yousuf Al Adidi, director of Al Qusais Police Station.

“The maid told investigators that the child’s mother asked her to take care of the child in exchange of money,” Col Al Adidi said. “The Kenyan woman didn’t come back home for eight days.”

“The Ethiopian housemaid said that the child’s mother used to consume alcohol and never took care of the child.”

The child’s birth certificate stated he was born at GMC Hospital. The father is an American and left the country before the baby was born after separating from the mother, a police official said.

The boy was taken to Dubai Foundation for Women and Children, and the American and Kenyan consulates were contacted, police said.
