DUBAI // A student banned from driving after taking part in an illegal road race was caught speeding again on Tuesday - by the head of Dubai Police's traffic department.
Officers launched a number of inspections around Academic City following complaints of aggressive driving and one of them was carried out by the department's head, Major General Mohammed Saif Al Zaffin.
At about midday, Maj Gen Al Zaffin stopped a 19-year-old Emirati student after noticing him overtaking in a "dangerous and aggressive manner" near to the Higher Colleges of Technologies. "He was driving on two sides of the road and at a mad speed," said Maj Gen Al Zaffin.
When the traffic chief asked for the student's licence he found that it had been revoked two weeks ago when the student was caught taking part in a race on Ras Al Khor road. The student had already acquired 24 black points prior to being caught racing.
"The act of this young man indicates a complete irresponsibility and indifference towards the lives of other road users," said Maj Gen Al Zaffin. "This category of young people needs continuous monitoring by their parents," he added.
