Pollution of the air, drinking water, food safety and soil quality are all issues which affect public health, and have now come under the spotlight by Dubai Municipality.
The authority has set up a committee to look at harmful aspects of the environment and what can be done to improve them.
The committee has awarded a six-month contract to an unnamed third party contractor to first assess the present risks. Salem bin Mesmar, assistant director general for environment monitoring, said it was part of an overall strategy to improve public wellness.
“We need to fix our environmental issues first,” he said.
