Dubai Customs foiled an attempt to smuggle 171.2 kilograms of cocaine worth Dh200 million that was hidden in 45-tonne banana shipment.
The shipment was coming into the country through Jebel Ali Port from a Latin country, via a European country. The shipment, the largest seized in the UAE in the past five years, was concealed in banana boxes.
Ahmed Al Khrousi, director of Customs Intelligence at Dubai Customs, praised the efforts of staff and inspectors.
He said smugglers used several methods of camouflage to divert attention from the shipment, but it was detected by the X-ray system at the port as well as police dogs.
