DUBAI // A firefighting system including a jetski and a jetpack that will allow civil defence to tackle blazes from water has been launched.

The system, named Dolphin, was presented by Maj Gen Rashid Thani Al Matrooshi, director general of Dubai Civil Defence, as one of the innovative ideas ahead of this week’s Intersec conference, a trade fair for security, safety and fire protection.

In a video released by Dubai Media Office, Dolphin appears to be a jetski equipped with a water jetpack and fire hose, which will grant civil defence easy access to fires on boats and in shoreline buildings.

Dolphin will shorten response times during peak traffic when vehicles can impede access, Gen Al Matrooshi said.

Last week, Lt Col Ali Al Mutawa, head of operations at Dubai Civil Defence, said floating firestations that would allow civil defence to tackle blazes from Dubai Canal might also be on their way.
