Dubai carpenter gets six months in jail for breaking both man’s legs with iron bar

DUBAI // A carpenter who assaulted a 52-year-old man with an iron bar and broke both the man’s legs was sentenced to six months in jail.

Dubai Criminal Court convicted Indian RP, 29, who was not present to enter a plea, of a charge of physical assault on his countryman, QH.

Prosecutors said that on January 26 the victim, was in his room when the defendant arrived carrying a large iron bar.

“He was not in a normal state, I noticed, and then without notice he started hitting both my legs with the bar,” said the victim.

“I fell unconscious then woke up to find myself at the hospital.”

The victim could also give no explanation for the assault. He said that he remained in hospital for a while and underwent surgery where metal plates were fixed in both his legs but he could not walk for a long period of time and so had to use a wheelchair.

Records said he was left with a 20 per cent permanent disability.

Prosecutors said RP confessed to the assault charge but he did not explain why he did it.

He will be deported after serving his jail term.
