Drunk British tourist jailed for headbutting police officers

A British tourist who headbutted two police officers after being arrested in Dubai for being drunk has been sentenced to a year in prison.

The 26-year-old was reported to police at around 3am on May 3 this year for causing a disturbance at Jumeirah Beach Residence.

Officers arrested the man and took him to Al Barsha police station after finding him intoxicated, court records show.

A police officer told Dubai Criminal Court: “We were the closest police patrol to the location and were tasked to head towards Mövenpick Hotel to investigate.

“We could smell alcohol on him so after identifying ourselves we took him to Al Barsha police station.”

Officials revealed the defendant had to be handcuffed and later headbutted two officers.

During questioning he admitted consuming alcohol but claimed he had no recollection of his arrest. The court ordered he be deported after completing his sentence.
