A man whose neighbours reported for being drunk and playing loud music attacked a policeman after he came knocking on his door, Dubai Criminal Court heard on Thursday.
The 41-year-old British accused, who lived in residential tower in Business Bay, was reported to police by his neighbours, for causing a disturbance, on June 22.
Officers identified themselves and asked the sales manager, who was wandering around his flat shirtless, to get dressed and go downstairs with them to speak in the building's reception area.
“We could smell alcohol on him and see that he was provoked for no reason,” said the officer.
Suddenly, the man launched an attack on the policeman's colleague. The accused hit and scratched the officer on his neck, then tore his uniform.
The court heard that the man was restrained, arrested and taken to Bur Dubai police station.
He was charged with physical assault, damaging a police uniform, causing disturbance to others and consuming alcohol without a licence.
The accused failed to attend court on Thursday and the hearing was rescheduled to September 23, when a verdict will be passed.
