DUBAI // An Arab drug gang have been thwarted as they attempted to smuggle 11 kilograms of hashish into Saudi Arabia from the UAE, police said.
The six-strong gang, aged between 22 and 30 and from three Arab countries, were caught by Dubai Police’s anti-narcotics department early this month through “Operation Domino”.
Police said the gang were known to be involved in drug smuggling throughout the region, including the UAE.
Operation Domino began on September 30, carried out by the anti-narcotics department in cooperation with Abu Dhabi Police and Al Ain Police.
The drugs were shaped into 11 rectangular blocks and wrapped in plastic, with a total weight of 11.223kg.
The gang confessed to police and are awaiting trial after reports have been passed to prosecutors.
