A driver who stole Dh2,000 from his employer’s daughter and threatened to share a video of her having sex with him, unless she gave him money or agreed to marry him, has been jailed. The Indian driver, 33, and his employer’s daughter — also Indian — had been in a relationship for four years until March 17 when the woman, 20, rejected his offer of marriage and broke up with him. Prosecutors said that was when he began to blackmail her, threatening to release a video of the pair having sex if she didn’t pay him more than Dh160,000 or agree to marry him. The driver also stole Dh2,000 in cash and other valuables from her bedroom in an act of revenge. The woman reported him to police and, during questioning, the driver said the pair had been in a relationship with his sponsor’s daughter since she was 16. "I have been working for her father for 10 years and used to drive her to school from her home," he said.<br/> "Then we became involved romantically and we had sex several times."<br/> He admitted to becoming angry when she told him of her intentions to end their romance.<br/> "I told her I would tell her father about us," he said. Court records did not disclose why the driver did not stand trial for having sex with a minor nor why the pair were not charged with having sex out of wedlock.<br/> At Dubai Criminal Court, the driver denied charges of theft and issuing threats but was convicted and, on Monday, sentenced to a year in jail followed by an additional six months in prison for theft. He will be deported after serving his prison term.
