Driver ‘groped woman then tried to expose himself to her’ in Dubai

DUBAI// A 25-year-old driver groped a woman before trying to expose himself to her, Dubai Criminal Court heard on Sunday.

The Algerian saleswoman said that on February 20 she was walking home from a late shift over a pedestrian bridge when the Indian man touched her.

“I looked back at him, he was smiling and trying to lower his trousers so I screamed and pushed him then reached for my mobile,” said the 38-year-old.

The man then ran off, she said.

She said this was the second time this man followed her but he did not come near her before as other people were on the bridge.

“Two days before the incident, he was walking next to me and smiling at me but I ignored him,” said the woman.

Six days later, she was contacted by police to identify him at the police station.

In court on Sunday the man denied a sexual assault charge and said he touched the woman by mistake.

The next hearing will be on April 20.
