DUBAI // A driver assaulted a doctor then hit him with his car, causing permanent damage, after having blocked his vehicle, a court heard on Monday.

Prosecutors said that the Syrian, 49, parked his BMW X5 in the middle of the street in Al Muraqqabat in September last year, blocking neighbours’ exits.

“I was waiting in my car when the defendant came out of his home shouting,” said the Indian doctor, 46. “I got out of my car and he twisted my arm before I was able to push him back.

“I told him to wait for the police but he jumped back into his car and drove off, hitting me on the way.”

A security guard saw the incident and intervened.

“I stopped the fight with the help of another colleague,” said the guard, 38. “The doctor reported the incident to police while standing in front of the defendant’s car.

“The defendant jumped into his car and drove away recklessly, endangering the lives of those near by, and hit the doctor.

A medical report stated the doctor sustained a 25 per cent permanent disability to his right shoulder.

At Dubai Criminal Court, the Syrian denied a charge of assault leading to permanent disability.

The next hearing is scheduled for April 20.
