DUBAI // A young marketing manager who tried to break up a fight ended up with a disability after he was assaulted by one of the men involved, heard Dubai Criminal Court.

The 24-year-old victim was leaving a nightclub in 2013 when he saw a number of men fighting.

“I went over and tried to stop them from fighting and when I saw that my efforts were not paying off, I just walked away,” said the Palestinian.

As he walked away, the Palestinian said a Serbian man followed him and threw him to the ground before sitting on his knee, breaking it.

A policeman said he was sent to the nightclub to investigate the fight.

“I met the victim and he told me he was taken to a room inside and beaten up by a number of men,” testified the 43-year-old officer.

In court on Wednesday the Serbian was not present to face a physical assault charged and causing a permanent disability. The court was told he was out of the country.

It was not clear why the case took three years to get to court.

The next hearing will be on December 14.
