More than 38,000 counterfeit valued at Dh8 million were seized in Ajman this month.

The goods were confiscated during two major inspection campaigns by Ajman's Department of Economic Development targeting shops across the emirate selling clothes, bags and accessories.

The inspections were triggered by a number of reports made to Ajman Police by companies who discovered counterfeit products bearing their brand names being sold.

The campaigns are also part of the department's efforts to protect consumers, said Majed Al Suwaidi, manager of Control and Consumer Protection Section.

"The department is keen on creating a fair investment environment which is an important element in economic growth," said Mr Al Suwaidi.
He said stiff penalties have been imposed on offender who will also face legal action.

He called on the public to report any suspected selling of counterfeit products through the DED's hotline number 80070.
