ABU DHABI // A man who allegedly scammed another out of Dh8,350 in phone credit by claiming the victim had won a prize has been referred to court, prosecutors announced on Tuesday.
The defendant, identified as an Asian, called the victim and told him he had won a Dh500,000 the prize.
He told him that to redeem his prize, he had to send him Dh8,350 in phone credit.
The victim believed the claims, after the defendant sent him a message with his name and authorised Etisalat code.
Then the caller disappeared, so the victim filed a police report.
The defendant was found working as a taxi driver in Dubai.
He denied his charge, saying he sold international calls online from home.
He has four numbers under his name.
Prosecutors have referred him to court.
