Dubai// In an effort to preserve Emirati culture and heritage, and further strengthen the development of a national identity in the UAE, people are being asked to bring forward any artefacts or family heirlooms to be studied and recorded.
The Hamdan bin Mohammed Heritage Centre (HHC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Juma Al Majid Centre for Culture and Heritage, with the aim of creating a joint venture to safeguard and promote the culture and heritage of the UAE.
“For anyone who owns artefacts dating from previous generations, even if it is a simple piece of paper, it is important to approach either our centre or the HCC, so that we can help to archive them appropriately,” said Juma Al Majid, chairman of Centre for Culture and Heritage.
“We do not wish to claim ownership of family heirlooms and personal articles – our mission is to help in appropriately archiving all such items to benefit the greater community and educate people about the UAE’s rich past.
“It brings us great pleasure to partner with the HHC to strengthen the research and development of the culture and heritage of the UAE. We hope that this partnership will provide valuable assistance to researchers as well as collectors who are interested in the country’s historical background, and inspire the community to get involved in its preservation and dissemination.”
He said that on an average the centre printed 10,000 ancient manuscripts every day from all over the world. They are now researching ways to make this information available to everyone.
