The UAE Public Prosecution is exploring ways to introduce artificial intelligence to into legal proceedings.

Dr Hamad Al Shamsi, UAE Attorney-General, and Omar Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, met to discuss potential applications in the emirate's judicial system.

The two agreed to increase co-operation and train staff to use the technologies that may have judicial applications, reported state news agency.

The meeting was attended by a number of senior officials and follows a trend of using technology to streamline legal proceedings in Abu Dhabi.

This month, the world's first digital courtroom was launched by Abu Dhabi Global Market, which operated the free zone on Al Maryah island, to deal with business cases and commercial disputes.

The new digital courtroom enables judges, witnesses, lawyers or plaintiffs from anywhere in the world to participate in a hearing though advanced video conference technology.

The system saves cost and time, and makes the process more convenient for companies with offices overseas.
